Introduction to Battery Technology
Battery technology has undergone a remarkable transformation since its inception. The earliest batteries, known as voltaic piles, were developed in the late 18th century, marking the beginning of portable energy storage solutions. These primitive devices, constructed from alternating layers of zinc and copper discs, provided a basic understanding of how chemical reactions could produce electric current. Over the following centuries, advancements in materials and design led to the creation of lead-acid batteries in the mid-19th century, which became the foundation for many applications, especially in vehicles.
